Karen Smith
The Building and Codes Department is headed by Karen Smith, Codes Administrator.
The Codes Administrator issues building permits for most new, expansion and renovation construction. Moving and demolition permits are also issued through this office. All permits must be obtained before the planned activity begins. Failure to obtain a permit prior to construction can result in significant penalties. Applications for a building permit are available at City Hall.
The Codes Administrator will provide a schedule of required inspections for permitted construction. All construction is subject to the provisions of the 2003 International Building Code and other building codes and laws relevant to the City of Millersville and State of Tennessee. Building inspections are scheduled with the City’s Certified Building Inspector.
The Administrator is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the zoning ordinance, related city codes and other ordinances involving land use.
All initial inquiries for matters involving the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals are handled through the City Building and Codes Department.
